Turkey is planning to meet separately with the leaders of Somalia and Ethiopia, after the failure of the 3rd round of talks between the two countries, which was planned to be held last Tuesday in Ankara, Turkey.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who spoke to the state news agency Anadolu, confirmed this plan, saying that Turkey is making efforts to bring the two sides together, before the parties are brought together face to face.

The minister also expressed hope that the parties will reach a solution, and underlined that they have learned lessons from the first two rounds of talks, which will pave the way for finding a solution to the current crisis.

“Instead of bringing the same parties here for direct talks, they would not meet directly and they would meet with us, the aim is to establish a relationship with them one by one, so that they can establish their positions, and then let’s bring the parties together when their positions come together,” said Minister Fidan.
Turkey has so far hosted two rounds of talks between the two neighbouring countries in East Africa, trying to improve their relations.
However, the relationship between Somalia and Ethiopia worsened in January, when Ethiopia entered into an agreement with Hargeisa administration to lease 20 km of maritime territory, instead of recognizing it.
