Somalia Puntland shared with the UN envoy a serious decision and a direct deal

The President of Puntland Said Abdullahi Deni today received a delegation from the United Nations led by the United Nations Envoy for Somalia Catriona Laing at the Presidential Palace.

After last night’s decision by the Cabinet of Ministers, Puntland has its own dealings with the international community, according to a recent statement from the Puntland Presidency.

President Said Deni has shared with the United Nations the official text of Puntland’s decision, which has withdrawn recognition and trust from the institutions of the federal government of Somalia.

In this meeting, the development and humanitarian projects of the United Nations and Puntland institutions were discussed, with the acceleration of direct cooperation, according to the Puntland presidency.

The meeting was also attended by the Vice President of Puntland Ilyas Osman some members of the Council of Ministers, the Director General of the Presidency and the Spokesman and the Director of Information of the Presidency.

This meeting comes hours after the administration announced that it has withdrawn its recognition and trust from the federal government agencies, and boycotted the action taken by the Somalia Parliament yesterday.

Puntland said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud of revoking the constitution that was agreed upon, and taking a new constitution out of his pocket.

However, the amendment of the constitution that came into effect yesterday is facing strong objections from the former leaders and opposition politicians, and its implementation is being questioned, while the parliament has acted on the first four chapters of the constitution.
